DUI Expert Witness:

I have been qualified as a D.U.I. Expert Witness in court. Prior to retiring from the Police Dept. I was a State Certified Standardized Field Sobriety Test Instructor teaching other Police Officers Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and D.U.I. procedures. I was also a State Certified Breathalyzer Operator and a D.U.I. “Top Cop” ranking #15 in the State Of Illinois for the years 2011 and 2012. I am also the author of “DUIs Decoded” which is a textbook for the D.U.I. Seminars.  I have been called to testify in DUI cases as an expert witness by defense attorneys in Cook County, Kane County and Lake County, Illinois. I recently testified in an out-of-State case, a DUI trial in Saipan, over 7,000 miles from Chicago, Illinois.

Here is a Chicago Tribune article about my expert testimony in the Saipan case.

My D.U.I. expert services are also open to Municipalities that are currently being sued in civil court for improper D.U.I. arrests by their police officers. Many police departments and/or their insurance carriers are paying out hundreds of thousands of dollars on each individual case.

Ask The DUI Expert, Officer Pelarenos

The BACtrack company, the maker of personal breathalyzers, has retained me as their DUI Expert to answer all D.U.I. questions in a new series of weekly articles that will be posted on their website. The questions and my answers will be posted under Ask The DUI Expert, Officer Pelarenos.  BACtrack customers who have questions regarding Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs must send their questions to info@bactrack.com

BACtrack Breathalyzers measure a person’s B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Content) and are for sale to the general public. They have various models and styles. The BACtrack S80 Pro is a fuel cell device that is very similar to the Preliminary Breath Tester that I used as Police Officer during D.U.I. investigations.  All their Breathalyzers can be viewed on their website BACtrack.com

Sports Organizations

Drunk Driving seminars or speaking engagements can be set up for sports teams including High School, College and Professional teams. I have also put together a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus Seminar for coaches who want to be able to use H.G.N. to detect concussions in players who suffer head injuries. Seminars can be arranged by contacting me at (708)793-3980 or email:  william@williampelarenos.com or  bill@policeproject1.com

Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus

Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus is known as H.G.N. , it is the involuntary jerking of the eye due to drug or alcohol impairment. It is the first test in D.U.I. investigations but it is also an indicator of brain injuries and head trauma such as concussions. H.G.N. is recognized by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the Legal Community and Medical Personnel.

Security Officers I have developed a class for security officers to recognize and deal with subjects under the influence of drugs, especially PCP, and alcohol.

Follow me on twitter @policeproject1 for daily postings of D.U.I. related tweets.  I have updated the Facebook page for my company  Pelarenos Police Project , take a look at it. My professional profile can be viewed at LinkedIn

“Legal Eagles”

I am the host of a new talk radio program on Chicago’s WCGO 1590AM. It is called “Legal Eagles” and airs Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m. The concept of the show is that we discuss a different legal issue each week with experts in that field.
